Kickstarter fever continues! Following news of Double Fine Productions’ incredible success at kickstarting a new point-and-click adventure title, inXile Entertainment is now following their lead. The company’s CEO, Brian Fargo, has revealed he plans to revive the long-lost franchise of Wasteland. “Huh?”, I hear everyone under the age of 25 ask, “is that a game or something?”. Well, if we want to be historically accurate, it’s actually a poem written by T.S. Eliot… but for our purposes we’ll just focus on the video game released in 1988.

Wasteland was a post-apocalyptic RPG co-created by Fargo for Interplay Productions. After its release, the developers lost the rights to the Wasteland name, and went on to create a new post-nuclear disaster RPG you might be a little more familiar with: Fallout.

Speaking to IGN, Fargo said the new Wasteland game (which may or may not be called “Wasteland 2″) will be “100% faithful to its roots”:

“[It] would be focusing on top-down, probably isometric, party based, skill based – where if you’d just finished playing Wasteland and moved onto this you’d feel comfortable”.

“A lot of people have forgotten that there would have been no Fallout if there wasn’t a Wasteland”.

Fargo pledged the game would be developed for PC first and foremost, and that it would be designed for fans, not a publisher. He also put the estimated cost at around $1 million, and predicted a kickstarter page would go live within a month.
